Balanced Bird & Parrot Diets for Medium-sized Parrots

Parrots should be provided a small parrot / bird mix (some are listed below - but also prefer above for species-specific diets), supplemented with various fruits, green foods, millet spray, and occasionally some mealworms is generally regarded as suitable.

Vegetables and fruits should be part of a parrot's daily diet. This includes apples, grapes, many garden vegetables such as spinach, watercress, field lettuce, poppy, chickweed, dandelions, carrots, corn on the cob, peas, endives and sweet potatoes.

  • Sprouting is an excellent way to provide nutrient-dense foods to birds who are less cooperative in eating its daily portions of fresh foods.
  • Should you find sprouting inconvenient, an excellent alternative, or complement to the sprouts, are Veggie Bites. They are organic, human-grade vegetables, grains and fruits -- prepared in a way that most birds will readily accept.

Additional proteins should be offered, such as cottage cheese, hardboiled eggs, peanuts, monkey chow, and even dog food. Fresh water should be provided daily.

A cuttlebone, mineral blocks or oyster shell should be placed into the cage to provide the necessary calcium & minerals
