Bird Anatomy

A bird's forehead is located above the beak, between the eyes. The forehead is often used for identification, as the color, markings and shape often vary by species. In some bird species, the bill extends in a frontal shield onto the forehead, such as the American Coot, Common Moorhen and Purple Gallinule.
