Regaining Bladder ControlCauses & Typical Treatment Protocols for Bladder Control Problems:

  • Bacterial Bladder Infections
    • A simple urine test can determine if you are suffering from a bacterial infection.
    • Antibiotics and herbal remedies, such as cranberries or uva ursi, are commonly prescribed.


  • Undiagnosed Food Sensitivities:
    • A food elimination diet can make a huge difference. Try avoiding gluten (wheat), dairy, yeast, eggs, corn, soy and nuts for a week and then adding them back into your diet one food at a time so you can identify what you are sensitive against.


  • Yeast Infections


  • Nutritional Deficiencies:
    • Magnesium deficiency can cause any part of the body to cramp or spasm, including the bladder. One recommendation may be taking 200 to 600 mg of magnesium citrate or glycinate daily, and see if this helps.
    • Vitamin B12 deficiency can mimic symptoms of MS, one of which is bladder spasms. Have your doctor check your methylmalonic acid levels in your blood.
    • NOTE: Any supplements / nutritional changes should be discussed with your holistic doctor!


  • Menopause can cause thinning of the vaginal wall and rethra, causing frequent urination and bladder irritability. Topical vaginal estrogen can sometimes be asafe and easy fix.


  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS: A serious health problem that requires the care and monitoring by health professionals, specifically neurologists. MS is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS).


  • High-impact exercise / aerobics can weaken the bladder as it can damage the pudendal nerve in the pelvic region, weakening the bladder so it can't completely empty. This can lead to bladder infections. To prevent this, stick to moderate types of exercises, such as yoga.
