Top Pick for "Practical" The next series of "square" cages are popular breeding cages. They are my favorites for raising babies and keeping as spares for "emergencies" and quarantaining birds. They are stackable, which is great for multi-bird households; they are light and easy to clean.

The 30x18x18 cage is large enough to house a couple of cockatiels, or makes a great breeding cage for a couple of lovebirds or budgies. Put some nice twigs (non-toxic of course), toys and "interesting elements" and you could have a fun home for a couple of finches as well ... Lots of uses for this inexpensive cage. Matching stands are also available and listed below.

Cage with Dividers or Not? I would not recommend the cages with dividers as breeding cages -- once divided, each section is too small to provide appropriate "living space" for a bird. However, I like these particular cages to separate chicks. When all the chicks are hatching and you pull them for handfeeding you run out of space quickly and you might want to separate the larger chicks from the smaller, delicate ones. Those cages work great for that purpose. For breeding purposes, the standard 30 x 18 x 18 without dividers work best.

Cages sized 24 x 16 x 16 are somewhat small as a living space for birds. However, they make great chick-raising cages and are also valuable for temporary housing situations. The flat top makes a great Playgym for the birds -- add a couple of toys and food dish on top, and you are good to go. They are light and easy to clean.
