Calayan Rails
The Calayan rail (Gallirallus calayanensis) is a flightless bird that inhabits Calayan Island in the Philippines.It is restricted to forests on coralline limestone areas on Calayan and extends to a total of less than 100km².
It is estimated that only about 200 pairs exist on the island.
It is one of 20 known extant flightless rails.
It is small in size with a dark brown plumage. The bill and legs are orange-red.
It makes loud, harsh calls.
