The Corn Plant (aka Dracaena, Corn Plant, Dragon Tree) requires very little care. These are low light plants with an attractive foliage varying in color from solid green to light green, with green stripes.

(Note: This is a controversial plant - mostly listed as safe - however, I have seen references that suggest that this plant is toxic to children and plants, if ingested. The OSU Center for Vet. Health Sciences lists is as non-toxic, but possible stomach-ache. Maybe it's a matter of quantity. Please discuss with your vet.)
Description:
The Corn plant has long leaves stemming from a wooden cane like stalk. The variegated leaves resemble corn foliage thus the name. The foliage using contains a yellow or crème center with dark green borders.
Care:
- Light: The Corn plant enjoys low light, making it perfect for corners and hallways.
- Watering: The Corn plant requires moderate watering. Water thoroughly once every 7 - 10 days or when the soil is dry to touch down 1 inch into the soil. The roots are close to the canes so water around each one. Because the water use is different for each cane, check around the whole pot.
- A sign of dehydration is wrinkling on the green stem where it joins the cane. Continual dehydration leaves you with crinkled withered foliage.
- Over watering encourages spots on the new growth and yellow hallows around the very tips of the leaves.
- Pests: The Corn plant tends to be resistant to many of the pests that other houseplants encounter. If it does become infected with bugs, spray with a soapy mixture of water and insecticidal soap.
- Pruning: To control height and maintain the existing shape, pull out the very center new growth of the plant.
