Bite Wounds: Bite wounds from dogs and cats should be gently cleaned with betadine (a sugiscrub) and the bird taken immediately to a veterinarian. Bacteria from the dog or cat can get into the bird, causing a generalized bacterial infection known as septicemia. This can be fatal if not treated. The veterinarian will start the bird on aggresive antibiotic therapy and to suture the wounds, if necessary.. In an emergency, breeders are also using "Super Glue" to close wounds as it is sterile and will close gaps quickly. Super Glue was originally developed as an emergency wound dressing for use on the battlefield. This is something to be discussed with trained medical personnel, as I have heard some concerns about possible toxicity..
