A falconet is a type of bird closely related to the falcons, including members of the genera Spiziapteryx and Microhierax in Falconidae.
The world's smallest carnivorous birds are the Black-thighed Falconet (Microhierax fringillarius) found throughout Southeast Asia, and the white-fronted falconet (Microhierax latifrons) on the island of Borneo. The average size is about 15 cm (6 in.), and weight 35 g (1.23 oz.).
The Spot-winged Falconet (Spiziapteryx circumcincta) inhabits the rather dry chaco and monte areas of Argentina where it is apparently rare.
