I used to breed zebra finches, gouldians, parrot finches and society finches. I found it to be a lot of fun and very family oriented. I remember the day when I was cleaning their aviary. As I exited the aviary, one of the parrot finches flew past me. I was so upset as I saw him fly around outside the aviary just about the entire day. The next day, to my surprise, the parrot finch was back in the aviary! Now, how did that happened I wondered? The explanation was: I had a water-run-off hole of about two inch diameter which I opened to allow the cleaning water to run out. In the excitement of the fugative finch, I had forgotten to close it. So this little finch crawled through this small hole back into the aviary. I just wouldn't have an aviary without finches ...
