Description: Generally green; lores and narrow frontal band blue; head bluish-green; blue band to nape; eye area yellowish-green; ear-coverts black; breast and throat bluish becoming yellowish-green on abdomen; bend of wing and flight feathers black; edge of wing and under wing-coverts bluish-green; primary coverts and secondaries virtually black; primaries dark blue with very narrow green edging to outer webs; tail upper green with violet-blue tips; underside dusky bluish-green; bill light bluish-grey; skin to narrow periophthalmic ring blackish; iris brown; feet grey. Immatures with pronounced green on greater and median wing-coverts; bill grey; iris dark.

Description: General plumage green; abdomen and under tail-coverts yellowish-green; upper cheeks, chin and forehead dull orange-red, becoming reddish-brown on forecrown; lores pale yellow; olive ear-coverts slightly elongated with yellow shafts; throat and breast olive; bend of wing and lesser wing-coverts red; edge of wing and under wing-coverts pale red; outer median and secondary wing-coverts dark blue; primary-coverts blackish violet-blue; primaries brownish-black with violet-blue base; secondaries blue with green outer webs; underside of flight-feathers greenish-blue; tail brownish-red with violet-blue tips; bill horn-coloured with bluish-grey base; periophthalmic ring dark grey; iris greenish-yellow; feet dark grey.
