Mockingbirds
Mockingbirds are a group of New World passerine birds best known for the habit of some species mimicking the songs of other birds, often loudly and in rapid succession.
Most species are tropical, but the Northern Mockingbird breeds throughout the United States and Canada.

- Bahama Mockingbird Mimus gundlachii : Found in Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the United States. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, and heavily degraded former forest
- Long-tailed Mockingbird Mimus longicaudatus : Found in Ecuador and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, and subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland.
- Large-billed Mockingbird Mimus magnirostris
- Patagonian Mockingbird Mimus patagonicus : Found in Argentina, Chile, Falkland Islands, and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry shrubland and heavily degraded former forest.
- Northern Mockingbird Mimus polyglottos
- Chalk-browed Mockingbird Mimus saturninus
Chilean Mockingbird Mimus thenca : Endemic to Chile. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry shrubland and heavily degraded former forest.- White-banded Mockingbird Mimus triuris : Found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland, and heavily degraded former forest.
- Socorro Mockingbird Mimodes graysoni : The Socorro Mockingbird is an endangered mockingbird endemic to Socorro Island in the Revillagigedo Islands. It numbers fewer than 400 individuals.
Nesomimus is a genus of bird in the Mimidae family, the mockingbirds, catbirds and thrashers. The genus is endemic to the Galápagos Islands. The species were important in Charles Darwin's development of the theory of evolution by natural selection. It contains the following species:
- Hood Mockingbird (Nesomimus macdonaldi)
- Galápagos Mockingbird (Nesomimus parvulus): Endemic to Ecuador. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.
- Floreana Mockingbird (Nesomimus trifasciatus): Endemic to Ecuador. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.
Genetic tests have shown that mockingbirds are most closely related to starlings.
