Red-headed Finch

The Red-headed Finch (Amadina erythrocephala), also known as Paradise Finch or Red Headed Weaver is endemic to Africa, where it is found in Kalahari Desert, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.


Description

Males have vibrant red heads and heavily barred chests. The hen is easily distinguished as her plumage is more plain and above all, she lacks the red head of the male.

They average 12.5 cm or 5 inches in length.


Breeding / Nesting

The average clutch size consists of 3 to 6 eggs which are incubated for 12 to 13 days.
