The Screaming Piha (Lipaugus vociferans) is widespread and relatively common within its range, in the humid forests in the Amazon and tropical parts of the Mata Atlântica in South America.
Description
Both male and female have mostly a dull grey plumage. The wings and tail tend to be browner.
Calls / Vocalizations
The voice is exceptionally loud and among the most commonly heard sounds in the Amazon.
The Cofan people of Ecuador refer to this species as " the Pwe-pwe Yoh" in reference to its voice.
During the breeding season, males often gather in loose leks (competitive mating displays or dancing grounds), where they sing to attract females.
