Visual Bird Repellers*

Resolving Backyard Wildlife Problems

Note: A good-size dog is usually one of the best ways of getting rid of some unwelcome visitors -- especially when it comes to the heavier, more ground-bound birds, such as geese and ducks is concerned. HOWEVER, even though it is fine to scare ducks or geese to get them to relocate, in many places it is illegal to allow dogs to make contact with or injure the ducks and geese. Ducks or geese can also be scared by simple chasin them, making loud noises and setting sprinklers up on a motion-detector.

  • What to do when Waterfowl becomes a problem ...

Alternatively, some "fake" bird repellers are available. Using 2 or more devices usually works faster and is more effective. Moving visual bird repellers around periodically is also important, or else the pesty critters will eventualy catch on that they are fake.

Visual scare devices that repel ducks, geese and many other birds are:

  • Two-dimensional Coyote decoy - works best if you have several replicas and move them around
  • Gator Guard. The Gator Guard floats in your pond or swimming pool. It is a realistic, floating alligator head that is 25 threatening inches long and moves and bobs with the wind and water. Its life-like eyes flash in the light and scares away ducks, geese and small animals.

Sonic devices are a great choice if you have a lot of ducks and geese and a lot of property to protect. This solution is, however, the most expensive.
