SilktailSilktails

The Silktail, Lamprolia victoriae is the only member of monotypic (one single species) genus Lamprolia.

Description

This is a small black bird with rounded wings, iridescent metallic blue crown and breast, silky white lower back patch and white rounded pattern tail..

The bird's beautiful appearance, superficially a bird of paradise look-alike, is actually a monarch flycatcher.

Silk TailDistribution / Range

The Silktail is restricted and endemic to forests of Taveuni and Vanua Levu islands of Fiji. While still common on Taveuni, it is rare on Vanua Levu.

Due to ongoing habitat lost, limited range and declining population, the Silktail is evaluated as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Diet / Feeding

The diet consists mainly of insects, worms and arthropods.
