Thermometers
The following thermometers will serve well in either measuring the temperature in a brooder, hospital cage or breeding room. The thermometers at the bottom will accurately measure the temperature of the baby formula.
Please note that if you are warming up the formula in the microwave, "hotspots" may occur. The temperature reading may be fine -- but if you haven't stirred well, the temperature of some of the formula may be scoldingly high. I prefer not to use the microwave for warming up the formula -- but if you do, please be aware of this problem.
I love the convenience of my water kettle. I boil the water several times a day to kill any bacteria and let it cool down to the right temperature of the formula. If too hot and I don't have time to wait, I add an icecube, and take it out when the temperature of the formula is right. This being said, there are live cultures in the baby formula. I would avoid adding water that is so hot that it will kill these. The live cultures are very important for your chick's health.
